On September 25, 2001, Police Chief Larry Todd of the
Los Gatos - Monte Sereno Police Department authorized the official
formation of the Los Gatos - Monte Sereno Police Pipes and Drums. The
Band is a unit of the Los Gatos Police Foundation and is comprised of both
civilian volunteers from the local community and surrounding law enforcement
agencies. The Band represents the Los Gatos - Monte Sereno Police Department
in various community events throughout the Bay Area year-round.
The Band operates under the guidance of Pipe Major Jay Tuttle. Under Jay's
leadership, the Band has grown to its current size of 40 plus volunteers.
Volunteers range in age from 14 to 75. Approximately half of the Band are
pipers, and half are drummers. The Los Gatos - Monte Sereno Police Pipes
and Drum Band is one of the largest volunteer pipe bands in the country.
The Band prides itself on performing at various community activities
throughout the Bay Area. Performance highlights include a pre-show concert
for Rod Stewart at HP Pavilion on March 15, 2007, and a Coca-Cola commercial
that ran during spring of 2006. Over the past few years, the Band has
performed an average of 45 events per year. Highlights of these annual
performances include: the Los Gatos Christmas Parade, San Jose Christmas
Parade, San Francisco Fleet Week, 4th of July and Veteran's Day Parades,
Fallen Peace Officer Memorials, and Pleasanton Scottish Highland Gathering
and Games.
